About

Life is a gift and how we use it is up to us… Soňa doesn't have children, but she works as a nurse in the children's ward and that's where she likes it best. At home, she lives as a guest in hostile territory. Her mother-in-law takes care of the shared household and interferes in everything, her husband is only interested in business and amateur radio. Soňa feels completely useless. She tries to jump out of this killing merry-go-round, but never finds the courage to do so. One day, however, the cup overflows and Soňa accepts the ward doctor's offer of an appointment for two. She leaves home and never comes back. She has no idea what will happen next, but she never looks back. Her fateful cards do not turn out favourably, but Soňa gradually discovers an unexpected courage to live… The film was made by Dušan Hanák in 1985 and, in addition to Magda Vášáryová and Juraj Nvota, it features Czech actors Jiří Bartoška and Jana Brejchová. The roles of Soňa's mother-in-law and her husband are played by Hungarian actors Robert Kóltai and Erzsi Pásztorová.
