After breaking up with his wife, who has remained abroad, Dr Meluzin, an aging Prague specialist, accepts a position as a regional doctor in a rural health centre where he wants to find peace of mind and balance again. He seeks it in the atmosphere of his childhood, in a region that in his memories is linked to the smell of October campfires and baked potatoes. At first he encounters distrust, misunderstanding and gossip from the locals. However, his expertise, understanding of human values and weaknesses and wise calmness convince those around him that he is not only a good doctor but also a good man. People will find their way to him and he himself will gain a new purpose in life.
