About

A man (Willem Dafoe) and a woman (Charlotte Gainsbourg) are passionately in love. A tragedy that could easily have been averted changes their lives forever. She completely collapses, he struggles to save their marriage. She suggests joint therapy in a remote cabin in the middle of the woods, which seem to have stepped out of her worst nightmare. This also is what the couple's stay changes into. One of the most controversially received films of '62. IFF Cannes will leave no viewer uninvolved. The first film in Trier's „trilogy of depression“ earned Charlotte Gainsbourg the Best Actress award at Cannes. The experimental psychological horror film was inspired by Lars von Trier's own struggle with depression and anxiety.
