About

Jonathan Feldman, along with three other young men, patrols an abandoned checkpoint somewhere in the desert in northern Israel. Occasionally they are disturbed by a passing car or camel while reading comics and listening to an old radio. Only an unexpected event with fatal consequences breaks the young soldiers out of their boredom. Meanwhile, back in Tel-Aviv, Jonathan's parents are trying to come to terms with the tragic news and find out what is actually happening somewhere in the desert.

Foxtrot conveys the surreal army experience of young soldiers and explores themes of guilt, loss and trauma that are passed down from generation to generation in Israeli society. All this in an original narrative manner that is imbued with a sense of beauty, absurdity and subtle humour.

For its anti-war message, Samuel Maoz's (Lebanon) film aroused controversy in his native country, and subsequently won eight Israeli Film Academy Awards. It was also awarded the Grand Jury Prize at the Venice Film Festival and nominated for the European Film Directing Award.
