Tropicana by Israeli director Omer Tobi is one of the films battling it out in KVIFF’s Proxima competition this year. It’s the story of a most ordinary middle-aged woman whose instinct is to serve others. In an interview, its maker discusses how the subject of intimacy and sexual freedom resonates in conservative Israel, and the difficulties he encountered finding actors unafraid to take part in the project.
