Jiří Mádl presented his new thriller Waves, centred on events at Czechoslovak Radio during the 1968 Soviet invasion, at this year’s KVIFF. In an interview, the Czech actor-director discusses the historical events that inspired the screenplay, as well as unforeseen parallels between 1968 and Russia’s current war on Ukraine, and how he approached incorporating archival footage into his third feature.
