Thomas Cailley’s The Animal Kingdom, which opened the Un certain regard section at Cannes, got its first screening outside France at KVIFF on Wednesday. A very human sci-fi adventure movie, it depicts a world where genetic mutation is turning victims into beasts of all kinds. In an interview, the director discusses the film’s magnetic young star Paul Kircher and why he didn’t use a studio, never mind green screen technology.
