The protagonist of this film parable questioning the superiority of the human race is Hagen, a dog who is separated from his loving owner, thirteen-year-old Lili, by the will of fate and must learn to survive on the streets of Budapest. There, he is constantly threatened by humans, yet Hagen manages to gain canine companions and survive to lead a two-hundred strong gang of dogs in a riveting finale and repay his tormentors with interest.
