About

A boy from a mining town and a girl whose origins are mysterious are drawn into a hunt for treasure hidden on the mythical flying city of Laputa. In the course of thrilling adventures, daring chases and breathtaking revelations, they must face not only childishly greedy air pirates, but also an army and all-powerful secret agents. Internationally acclaimed director and screenwriter Hayao Miyazaki has reflected his fascination with flying, but also with classic European adventure fiction and the fascinating late 19th century era that brought with it the rise of aviation and airships. Thanks to these influences, Laputa: Castle in the Sky has a distinctly European, almost Vernean, feel. The child protagonists are not conceived as schematic figures experiencing naive escapades, but instead have to face the great challenges posed by the adult world. The biggest one is the decision over whether a human being can have the dangerous power that is hidden in the bowels of the titular flying castle.
