After the death of Juliet's husband, Antía's father, mother and daughter
are going through the worst time. Both suffer, Julieta withdraws into herself
and their silent pain alienates both women over time. When Antía turns
eighteen, she leaves her mother without a word of explanation. Julieta
desperately searches for her in every possible way for more than 12 years.
During that long time, she discovers how little she knows her daughter. It is
only a chance meeting with Antía that gives her mother the chance to try to win
her back. Lonely and broken, Julieta decides to confront her life and tell her
daughter the truth about the fateful events that tore their lives apart.
Pedro Almodóvar found inspiration for his return to the characters of
passionate women and misguided mothers in the short stories of Canadian author
Alice Munro. The Palme d'Or contender was accompanied at the 51st KVIFF by the
two actresses Julieta, Emma Suárez and Adriana Ugarte.
