Hajni Kis to KVIFF.TV: My characters are always rootless.
The Hungarian picture Wild Roots – in which a father attempts to re-establish
contact with his daughter as part of efforts to get his life back on track –
was in contention in the East of the West competition at the 55th KVIFF. In an
interview, director Hajni Kis explains why she cast the untrained lead actor (in
real life an MMA fighter) even though he came unprepared for an audition, and
discusses the way relations between him and the girl playing his child changed
during the shoot.
