Too Loud a Solitude
Old paper, old paper press and Philippe Noiret in a tragicomedy based on Bohumil Hrabal's novel.
The aging Haňta works in a waste-packing facility as a packer of old paper, is about to retire and wants to take the press he has worked on for years with him. He lives out his quiet days, filled with ordinary and extraordinary encounters with the people who bring paper to be collected, and with imaginary guests, whether they are saints, literary figures, or the authors of the books he presses. He reads, dreams of the beautiful gypsy Ilonka, and drinks with friends including a professor, gypsies and a churchman. However, his peaceful life unexpectedly begins to crumble and the disillusioned man, who unexpectedly loses the meaning of life, sees the only solution to complete his life's work.
