Louis Bloom (Jake Gyllenhaal) is a young man who makes a living and believes he has what it takes to make it big one day. When he goes to a stolen metals salvage yard one night, he witnesses an accident that tabloid reporters immediately descend on to film and then monetize the footage. Bloom immediately recognizes a unique opportunity. He gets a camera, a police radio and gets to work. Soon he is able to hire an assistant (Riz Ahmed) and find a steady outlet for his reportings, which is a Los Angeles television station. He has a flair for dramatic coverage of events, and when he is once incredibly lucky to find himself at the scene of a robbery before the police, he decides to make the best of it, regardless of journalistic or human ethics.
