About

María (Noomi Rapace) and Ingvar (Hilmir Snær Guðnason) live a modest and peaceful life in harmony with nature. Yet they defy the natural order of things when a mysterious newborn appears in their barn and they decide to keep it, despite the warning signals. Debut director Valdimar Jóhannsson draws on folk traditions to bring an unsettling and highly original story in which human drama comes up against the supernatural. A visual poem and a meditation on motherhood, unconditional love, and respect for the laws of nature, Lamb was shown in competition in the Un Certain Regard section, where it won the Prize of Originality – the first time the jury presented this award.
