Cold Case Hammarskjöld
They followed the trail of one of the greatest mysteries of the 20th century. And they found a lot more than they expected.
On 18 September 1961, a plane with UN Secretary-General Dag Hammarskjöld on board crashed near the Zambian town of Ndola. There were no survivors. But was it really an accident? Was it an assassination? Is Hammarskjöld the most important victim of the Cold War? Or was he removed by Western intelligence services because of his support for free African states? More than fifty years later, Danish documentary filmmaker Mads Brügger and Swedish private investigator Göran Björkdahl are on the cold trail. Who is the killer and who is the victim? Who is the hoaxer and who is telling the truth? Brügger has created a sophisticated blend of detective story, spy thriller, documentary and elaborate mystification that draws the audience into a game of tricks and lies.
