Amnesty

The Velvet Revolution in 1989 brought freedom to most people, but it also brought problems to some and opportunity and a career to others. Former prominent people became prisoners, former dissidents and prisoners became overnight politicians and people of influence. Already under socialism, a story begins to unfold that will be accelerated by the revolution and will culminate in the bloody events of the largest prison revolt in our country. President Václav Havel's extensive amnesties in the winter of 1990 did not apply to many of the serious criminals in Leopold Prison. They therefore rebelled and occupied the entire prison for almost two weeks. The prison area turned into a war zone and had to be stopped only by the police and special forces using military equipment. The unrelenting and harsh crackdown was appreciated by part of the public, while another part pointed to its excessive brutality. The story of three couples whose lives intertwine against the backdrop of the huge and rapid revolutionary changes of 1989.
