Director C.J. Obasi has set his new film in a remote Nigerian seaside village where the inhabitants still worship a goddess called Mami Wata. The black-and-white film took over seven years to shoot. In an interview the young Nigerian helmer discusses the spiritual values of the picture and the state of his country’s film industry.
