The Landscape
This distinctive retrospective film by director Martin Šulík depicts the fate of Slovakia in the twentieth century in individual episodes.
This film is the story of a country. It is made up of the stories of the people who live there. A story does not want to be history. And yet, the individual fates gradually weave together a picture of an era, its stellar moments and its tragic moments. In the fates of the villagers (little Imriško, the soldier Cypr, the vagabond Cyril, Dr. Roth, the tailor Ondráš, the poacher Korman and others) and their everyday stories, told with love and humour, we can observe the flow of time and the changes that life in an imaginary small country in central Europe went through during the twentieth century.
