There are world-famous festivals like Cannes, Venice, and Berlin, and then there are those that are important for the industry, filmmakers, distributors, fans, or the local region, such as Locarno or Karlovy Vary.
And then there are lesser known, distinctive, but no less interesting festivals such as the longtime festival in Lyon. The Karlovy Vary festival’s programming department, whose members regularly visit festivals around the world, has put together a tour of several of these.
