Just 24 hours are enough to turn the life of performing arts student Una upside down. And not just hers. When Reykjavík is paralyzed by the greatest transport tragedy in its history, like many other people Una is confronted with sudden loss and pain. But unlike those around her, she cannot openly express and experience her emotions. Rúnar Rúnarsson’s sparse yet emotionally complex film focuses on the moment when someone close to us, someone with whom we had planned a future, disappears from our lives. It tells a story of grieving, of the fragile tangle of human emotions, and the vulnerability and resilience of youth. To the strains of Jóhann Jóhannsson’s Odi et Amo, it then reveals the fleeting beauty that emerges in moments of unexpected loss.
