Matěj Chlupáček: Czech filmmakers do not have a good reputation abroad in terms of creativity

Matěj Chlupáček made his first film at the age of 17, without having graduated from FAMU. Or any film school. Any high school, actually. He didn't tell the crew how old he really was until after the shoot. But he feels much freer and unbound in his work without the confines of learned techniques and approaches. His film We Have Never Been Modern, which opens up the topic of intersexuality and is too educational for some Czech viewers, was presented in the Crystal Globe Competition at the festival. The film We Have Never Been Modern brings more favourable reviews from abroad. Matěj Chlupáček is preparing a new series To se vysvětlí, soudruzi!, a series Dcera národa about Zdeňka Havlíčková, a miniseries Táta, a third series Iveta (as producer), and a documentary Karlos about a fighter and Karlos Vémola. He is also already developing another film with screenwriter Miro Šifra.
