Independent distributor/pu­blishers traditionally think ahead to adapt to the needs of markets and audiences but their drive often outpaces the available technology. Fresh tools and services are urgently needed, particularly in areas connecting content and audiences, such as data analytics, digital marketing and in more industrial areas, such as rights management. Europa Distribution, the international network of independent film publishers and distributors and the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival have teamed up to invite forward-thinking distributors to a think tank in Karlovy Vary, to brainstorm and consequently highlight the specific areas where significant innovation is required. This panel shared their conclusions, which will hopefully inspire some projects, bring about the required innovation and have positive implications for the whole film ecosystem.
