In Jordan, inheritance law applies only to men. If a woman does not have any male heirs, she must split the property with the extended family. When Nawal’s husband unexpectedly passes away, she finds herself in just such a situation. Left alone with a young daughter, she must face her country’s unfa­vorable patriarchal laws, ravenous relatives, and her husband’s past. At the center of this social drama is actress Mouna Hawa, who has manifested a boundless range of emotions in a character who besides learning to drive also begins to take control of her own life on her journey towards more equal conditions.
