On the Adamant
The ship Adamant is a day care centre. The unique barge is located in the heart of Paris on the Seine River and cares for people suffering from mental disorders. Nicolas Philibert, one of today's most famous documentary filmmakers, presents a welcoming community, atypical in particular because the patients co-create their care. People are encouraged to exchange ideas, participate in artistic and cultural activities, and some even meet to keep the association's books. Muriel, François, Sébastien, Frédéric are not mere patients, but real people who are able to think, feel, create and have a sense of humour. The Berlinale winning film is a story of everyday joys and sorrows in the intimate atmosphere of the Adamant's cabin, breaking down the conventional ideas of „madness“.
