About

This feature film about the painter Vincent van Gogh follows the words of the genius himself, who once said that he „can only communicate through his paintings“. It was made through a combination of live-action film and animation of the original oil paintings. More precisely, 66,960 original oil paintings created by 125 artists from around the world based on 94 original works by van Gogh. In the words of the creators, „the unfolded paintings could cover the whole of London or Manhattan“. The animated paintings are based on live-action scenes with real actors. The script was based on 800 letters written by van Gogh, mainly to his brother. The story culminates in July 1890, when van Gogh, recovering from depression, shoots himself in the chest and dies two days later, aged 37, from the wound. The circumstances of his death have never been fully explained.
