Frida Kahlo is today considered an icon of independence and femininity. However, her life was marked by incredible pain, which is reflected in her paintings. „I don't paint dreams or nightmares, I paint my own reality,“ the artist used to say of her work full of contrasts. In the same way, and largely through personal objects, her letters and diary entries, the documentary Frida – Viva la vida looks at the personality of Mexican art. Accompanied by the Italian actress and director Asia Argento, the film presents Frida Kahlo as a woman tormented by agony and love on the one hand, and as a painter freed from her physical torments and handicaps on the other. The film is presented by Asia Argento.
