The documentary To Die to Live, by Ukrainian filmmaker Yuliia Hontaruk, was presented in the Special Screenings section at this year’s KVIFF. It offers a detailed look into the lives of Ukrainian soldiers returning home from the front lines as they try to live normal lives. In an interview, she recounts where she found her three protagonists, and how she managed to gain their trust and consent to be filmed. She also explains how she dealt with her own fear of death while shooting combat operations.
