Palm Dog

Award for the Best Canine Performance in a Leading, Supporting, or Group Role.

Did you know that even dogs can take home an award from the Cannes Film Festival? Since 2001, the Palm Dog Award (a playful nod to the festival's main prize, the Palme d'Or) has been celebrating the best canine performances in films showcased at Cannes. Selected by a jury of film critics, the award comes in the form of an elegant leather collar and is presented to individual dogs or groups, across both live-action and animated films. Notable winners include the border collie Messi, honored for his portrayal of Snoop in Anatomy of a Fall, and the pitbull Sayuri, recognized for her heartfelt performance as Brad Pitt’s loyal companion in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. This year, La Croisette will once again echo with barking as the next collars are awarded — but before that happens, we invite you to revisit some of the standout winners from past editions.
