Halloween

Movies tailored for an Anglo-Saxon celebration of ancestors, costumes, and candy.

Halloween is that time of year when, on October 31st, we’re drawn back to our darker roots. Its history stretches all the way back to the ancient Celts, who believed that this was the time when the worlds of the living and the dead overlapped. With the arrival of Christianity, Celtic mysticism merged with the celebration of All Saints' Day—known as All Hallows' Eve—and yes, that’s where the name Halloween comes from. Originally, it was a quiet time to honor ancestors, but over the centuries, it’s transformed into the day we now know—filled with costumes, carved pumpkins, and heaps of candy.

So, whether you're in costume or just armed with a bag of chocolate, we invite you to indulge in films perfectly „served“ for this spooky occasion. For starters, try the Czech delight She Came at Night by Tomáš Pavlíček and Jan Vejnar, a story about the horrors of living with mothers-in-law. For the main course, nothing hits the spot quite like the intensely pagan Midsommar by Ari Aster. And for dessert, why not enjoy the retro horror Late Night with the Devil?

For the little ones joining in on the Halloween viewing, we’ve got Hotel Transylvania 1, 2, and 3 ready to go!
